Frequently Asked Questions

What does F.I.T. Stand For?
F.I.T. stands for Fitness Intensive Therapy. The staff at BeneFIT Physical Therapy are described as mechanically based Physical Therapists. This means that your treatment focus will be on evaluating and treating the various muscle imbalances you may present with through flexibility or strength differences throughout your body. Once these imbalances are correctly identified then a comprehensive exercise program will be established based on your individual needs and goals. These exercises will be focused on correcting whatever imbalances you have through gaining strength, flexibility, or training you in new movement patterns, in an effort to abolish pain, increase range of motion, build strength, and improve your functional mobility.

However, Fitness Intensive Therapy does not stop there. As you progress through your program our goal is not just to get you back to where you were but to provide you the tools necessary to improve your overall fitness. We will be able to examine the factors that contributed to your imbalances originally, and make the appropriate adjustments to your exercises to give you the means to correct any future imbalances, prevent injury, become independent in your own self-treatment techniques, and allow you to surpass your goals and become a fitter you.

What is the McKenzie Method?
The McKenzie Method is a philosophy of active patient involvement and education that is trusted and used by practitioners and patients all over the world for back, neck, and extremity problems. This approach continues to be the most researched physical therapy based method available. The key distinction is its initial assessment component–a safe and reliable means to accurately reach a diagnosis and only then make the appropriate treatment plan. Being a Certified McKenzie Clinician we have a valid indicator to know right away whether–and how–the method will work for you.

What is the Functional Movement Screen?
Based on years of research and innovation, the Functional Movement Screen is a grading system which evaluates movement patterns that are key to normal function. The FMS helps identify functional limitations and asymetries which can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning, and distort body awareness.

Once a Functional Movement Screen score is obtained it can be used to target problems and track progress as well as individually identify the most effective corrective exercises to build strength and to restore proper movement.
